[WKF 2020] Future of Digital Identification│Ramesh Kesanupalli(DID Alliance Co-Founder, Digital Trust CEO)

 

Approximately 1.1 billion people in the world cannot prove who they are because they do not have ID cards. Those who cannot verify themselves remain in the blind spot of education, welfare, and healthcare service. It becomes a concern for us, not just for them; when there are warnings of upcoming pandemics after COVID-19, someone who cannot be identified eventually becomes an unpredictable hole for global response, resulting in threats for all of us. In 2016, UN initiated the ID 2020 project to provide traceable ‘digital identity’ for everyone. In this regard, DID, the blockchain-based ID verification technology has emerged. There are some leading countries, including South Korea, where are deploying DID technology to promote various services such as digital ID card, etc. Regarding COVID-19, there are discussions of issuing ‘immune passports’ using DID. Will the digital identity with DID technology be able to improve the identification system and make our life better?
