Blockchain Technology, Financial Reporting and Disclosure│Amal Shehata (New York University Stern School of Business, Clinical Professor of Accounting)

Blockchain technology is in the news! You may have heard of the "crypto-winter", the FTX fraud, stablecoins, bitcoin, NFTs, CBDCs and more. Is blockchain technology just a trend or does it provide meaningful benefits? Professor Amal Shehata of NYU will share examples of blockchain technology in the business world, including crypto-currencies and Korean use-cases. We will reflect on the broader concept of tokenization of assets, evaluating the benefits and risks. The current political and financial reporting regulations for crypto assets vary across countries; what are the implications of these differences? Are certain countries more welcoming of this new economic activity and does this influence behaviors? The US accounting standards are currently changing the accounting treatment of crypto assets and we will consider: why were the former rules controversial? Will the new proposed rules provide a more meaningful representation of the economic activity? Is there a risk of earnings management? Professor Shehata will address these questions, with a focus on how blockchain technology will impact financial reporting and investors. ☆ WKF | http://www.wkforum.org/WKF/2021/kr/ ☆ Instagram | https://www.instagram.com/worldknowledgeforum/ ☆ Youtube│https://www.youtube.com/wkforum ✻ World Knowledge Forums lecture contents are copyrighted by Maekyung Media Group.
