[WKF 2016] Future of Internet : Overcoming Digital Phobia│Esko Aho, Carl Bildt

Global Internet Governance Commission (GCIG) ended their official activities 2016 June and released a report, ‘One Internet.'. The point of the report is "the future of the Internet is bleak.” Since industrialization started in 1995, the Internet has become the heart of the infrastructure in the world, but its original objectives have been significantly damaged. The Internet challenges the right to freedom of expression and Internet users suffer from the hack threats. Also, the digital gap caused by the Internet is creating another type of polarization around the world. Over four billion people, a half of the world’s population, still do not see the benefits of the Internet. If we do not work together for the free and widespread Internet, it will be impossible to prosper with internet. The economic contribution of the Internet is 4.2 trillion dollars in 2016 and is estimated to grow to 11.1 trillion dollars by 2025. While the world without the Internet is unimaginable, the four principles of the Internet, openness, transparency, security and inclusiveness, are fading. In this session, we are going to discuss how we can eradicate hack threats and what we should do to benefit from internet equally. • How can we keep the four principles of the Internet; openness, transparency, security and inclusiveness? • What is the current situation of the Internet security technology and how can we avoid hack threats? • What should we do in order to minimize digital polarization? • What actions need to be taken to ensure a sustainable growth with the Internet? ★ WKF → http://www.wkforum.org/ ★ Facebook → https://www.facebook.com/WorldKnowledgeForum/ ★ instagram → https://www.instagram.com/worldknowledgeforum/
